Frequently asked questions
Short answers to questions we are often asked.
What is kosu?
Kosu (standard work hours) is the time needed to carry out a repair job with standard equipment and skills. It is expressed in hours.
What is a labor rate?
The labor rate is a repair shop's charge per hour of work. It is also called the hourly rate or shop rate.
How is the labor charge calculated?
Labor charge = kosu × labor rate. For example, 2.4 h × 30,000 yen/h = 72,000 yen (example figures only). The total repair cost also includes parts, paint materials and subcontracting.
Are kosu and the 'index' used for passenger cars the same?
Both express the work needed for a repair, but they are separate standards. ZENDAIKYO's reference books cover small, medium and large trucks.
What standard is ZENDAIKYO's kosu based on?
JIS Z8141:2001. Main work time and preparation time are added up for each part, taking work safety and difficulty into account.
Does ZENDAIKYO set labor rates?
No. ZENDAIKYO does not set or recommend any labor rate amount. Each business decides its own rate based on its own costs.
